Bulul 06

33 Pair of seated large bululs from Banaue, each 82 cm high and about 19 kg. each in weight. These were said to be from Amganad, a barangay of Banaue district in Ifugao province, and to be carved by Dalluyon. They are elegant and well carved in a mid-20th century style. The National Museum Curator for Anthropology (Dr. Barbosa) said these bululs are too large for granary bululs and were probably not used for ritual purposes. He believed they were kept underneath a house as guardian figures. These figures were certified as cultural properties by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2003 with stamps 0084808 and 0084809, with an estimated date from circa 1950-1960.
